2011 Top Internet users are Google & Facebook.

According to research by Nielsen, In the year 2011 top internet users are Google and Facebook. The web huge stature logged 153.4 million average unique visitors per month, compared with the social-networking giant's 137.6 million.

Yahoo came in at 3^rd rank with 130.1 million unique monthly visitors, while Microsoft's MSN/WindowsLive/Bing and Google's YouTube filled out the top 5.

 

While Google in tops in overall Web properties, Facebook remained firmly rooted as No. 1 in social networks and blogs with the above mentioned 137.6 million average unique visitors. Blogger came in at a distance second with 45.7 million average monthly unique visitors, and Twitter was 3^rd rank with 23.5 million.
Google+, Google's nascent social network, came in at 8^th rank with 8.2 million average unique visitors per month, behind WordPress.com MySpace, LinkedIn, and Tumblr. 

 

Also not a surprise, YouTube was the top video destination on the Web, averaging 111 million unique visitors a month. Vevo was a very distant second with 34 million average unique monthly visitors, and at 3^rd rank was Facebook with 29.8 million average unique monthly visitors. Video-streaming site Hulu came in at 8^th Rank with 12.4 million average unique monthly visitors. Bringing up the bottom of the top 10^th was troubled video site Netflix, with 7.4 million average unique monthly visitors.

 

Nielsen also ranked smartphones, listing Apple at the top with 29 percent of the market, followed by HTC with 21 percent and Research In Motion with 17 percent.

First Apple TV’s could be launched in coming summer.

But it is very difficult to say that these rumors will come to fruition. Lt. Steve Jobs  biographer Isaacson threw cold water on the notion that an Apple TV set would come to market anytime soon. Isaacson said in that interview that Apple wasn't "close at all" to getting its integrated TVs on the market.

Apart from the above mentioned tabs, Lava also unveiled its plan to enter the tablet market by 2012. According to a report, the company plans to launch its Android-based tablet by February next year. "Lava will launch an Android 2.3-based tablet in February for Rs 5,500. It will be made available bundled with a service provider and will not be available as a standalone device," S N Rai, co-founder and director, Lava International was quoted by Business Line as saying.

The tablet is also expected to sport a 17.8-cm (7-inch) capacitive touchscreen and house a 1 GHz processor. The company that stepped into the mobile phone market with the S12 handset, also announced that it plans to complete this fiscal year with Rs 10 billion in revenue. At the same time, the company has also hinted at entering the smartphone market by March/April next year.

Ways to make Pen Drive Bootable.

When we are going to install any OS, lot of times we are facing problem to CD/DVD R/W not read the CD/DVD’s. So, we choose that time the option to make our pen drive bootable. It is very easy and cheap method to install any OS.

1. How To Boot From A USB Flash Drive?
2. How to Install Windows 7 From a USB Flash Drive or USB Hard Drive?
3. How To Create Bootable Windows 7, Vista, or XP USB Flash/Pen Drive Quickly?

Let me explain lot of ways to make pen drive bootable:-

A. Requirements to create bootable Windows USB.

# Windows 7 or Vista ISO

# Pen drive with 4GB+ (2 GB is sufficient for XP)

Procedure:

1. Insert your USB flash/pen drive to your system and backup all the data from the USB as your USB drive will be formatted during the process.

2. Now download WinToFlash tool (free) from here.

 

3. Run the tool, and browse to your Windows 7, Vista, or XP DVD files (make sure that your USB drive letter is correct).

"WinToFlash starts a wizard that will help pull over the contents of a windows installation CD or DVD and prep the USB drive to become a bootable replacement for the optical drive. It can also do this with your LiveCD.

You don't have to worry about scratches on the disc or misplacing your original media discs once you transfer their contents to the flash drive. The optical drive is quickly becoming a thing of the past, especially in office environments, as media is shifted to the cloud."

4. Click Create button to begin the bootable USB process. Wait for few minutes to see the bootable USB.

B. Manually Create Your Pendrive Bootable
Here we assume that you are using either Vista or Windows 7 to create a bootable USB.
1. Insert your USB (4GB+ preferable) stick to the system and backup all the data from the USB as we are going to format the USB to make it as bootable.

2. Open elevated Command Prompt. To do this, type in CMD in Start menu search field and hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter. Alternatively, navigate to Start > All programs >Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and select run as administrator.

3. When the Command Prompt opens, enter the following command:
DISKPART and hit enter.
LIST DISK and hit enter.
Once you enter the LIST DISK command, it will show the disk number of your USB drive. In the below image my USB drive disk no is Disk 1.

4. In this step you need to enter all the below commands one by one and hit enter. As these commands are self explanatory, you can easily guess what these commands do.

SELECT DISK 1 (Replace DISK 1 with your disk number)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS
(Format process may take few seconds)
ASSIGN
EXIT 
Don’t close the command prompt as we need to execute one more command at the next step. Just minimize it.

5. Insert your Windows DVD in the optical drive and note down the drive letter of the optical drive and USB media. Here I use “D” as my optical (DVD) drive letter and “G” as my USB drive letter.

6. Go back to command prompt and execute the following commands:
6.1. Change directory to the DVD’s boot directory where bootsect lives:
d:
cd d:\boot

6.2. Use bootsect to set the USB as a bootable NTFS drive prepared for a Vista/7 image. I’m assuming that your USB flash drive has been labeled disk G:\ by the computer:
bootsect /nt60 g: 

(Where “G” is your USB drive letter)

7. Copy Windows DVD contents to USB.
You are done with your bootable USB. You can now use this bootable USB as bootable DVD on any computer that comes with USB boot feature (most of the current motherboards support this feature).

Delhi Court issued summons to 21websites on 23rd Dec.

Couple of days after civil court asked various websites to remove objectionable content. As Earlier this month, Telecoms Minister Kapil Sibal urged Facebook, Twitter, Google and others to remove offensive material, unleashing a storm of criticism from internet users complaining of censorship, Delhi court Friday issued summons to 21 websites and social networking sites including Facebook, Google, Yahoo and YouTube for allegedly hosting obscene and derogatory content.
Taking cognizance of the case on a private criminal complaint filed by journalist Vinay Rai, Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar observed that the material submitted by the complainant contained to remove photographs, videos or text which might hurt religious sentiments.The magistrate directed the central government to take immediate appropriate step on the objectionable contents of the sites, and file its report by Jan 13.
"It appears from a bare perusal of the documents that prima facie the accused are selling, publicly exhibiting and have put into circulation obscene, lascivious content which also appears to the prurient interests and tends to deprave and corrupt the persons who are likely to read, see or hear the same," the court said.
"It also evident that such contents are continuously openly and freely available to everyone who is using the said network irrespective of their age and even the persons under the age of 18 years have full and uncensored access to such obscene contents," it said.
The magistrate has summoned the accused companies to face trial for allegedly committing the offence punishable under section 292 (sale of obscene books etc), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young person etc) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On Monday Dec 26, a civil court of Delhi had ordered these sites to remove objectionable images.

Firefox with Google upto 2014 ends.

Good to know that Firefox lives-at least for three more years apprx 2014 ends. News announced on Tuesday by Mozilla Official Blog that it and Google have agreed to renew an agreement that makes Google the default search engine in the Firefox browser.

“We’re pleased to announce that we have negotiated a significant and mutually beneficial revenue agreement with Google,” Mozilla announced in a company blog. The agreement extends the relationship between the two companies, but the blog post did not go into depth about the details of the extension.

There had been some speculation over whether Google, which has seen an amazing amount of success with its Chrome browser, would agree to renew the deal with its rival. Mozilla revealed in earnings reports that it makes 84 percent of its revenue from the agreement with Google. All Firefox fans grew restless when the November deadline for renewal came and went without a peep from either company.

HTC going to build Facebook phone code Buffy

After years of considering how to best get into the phone business, Facebook has tapped Taiwanese cellphone maker HTC to build a smartphone that has the social network integrated at the core of its being. Facebook has allied with Taiwan's HTC to build a customized smart phone powered by Google's Android mobile operating system.

The project, code named " Buffy," is aimed at making a handset tailored for the California-based social networking platform. A Facebook team has been working with HTC as well as trying to make deals with telecom providers for the smartphone, which it hopes to release within the next 18 months.

A Facebook spokesman declined to comment directly on the "Buffy" project to Things Digital. It is possible that the device simply known as Buffy will have a modified version of the Android platform that will make Facebook the front and center attraction. It is not yet clear what kind of visual changes will be made. It is also possible that the blue button will remain somewhere on the device. According to a Facebook spokesperson, they believe that every mobile device is better when it is deeply social.

According to Facebook, they  have 350 million active mobile users, and relationships with 475 global mobile operators. Although it is one of the most popular applications on nearly every phone for which it is available, the social network generally plays only a supporting role.

How to verify an e-mail address?

How do you verify if a given email address is real or fake?

When we send a test mail to that email address and if your message doesn’t bounce, it is safe to assume that the address is real. But some web domains may have configured a catch-all email address meaning that messages addressed to a non-existent mailbox will not be returned to the sender but in most cases, such email messages will bounce.

Ping an Email Address to Validate

When you send an email to someone, the message goes to an SMTP server which then looks for the MX (Mail Exchange) records of the email recipient’s domain.
For instance, when you send an email to test@gmail.com, the mail server will try to find the MX records for the gmail.com domain. If records exist, then next step would be to determine whether that email username (test in our example) is present or not.
Using a similar logic, we can verify an email address from the computer without actually sending a test message. Here’s how:
Let say that we want to verify if the address marshal@gmail.com exists or not?

Step 1. Enable telnet in Windows.  Or if you already have the Putty utility, skip this step.

Step 2. Open the command prompt and type the following command:

nslookup –type=mx gmail.com

This command will extract and list the MX records of a domain as shown below. Replace gmail.com with the domain of the email address that you are trying to verify.

gmail.com MX preference=30, exchanger = alt3.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com
gmail.com MX preference=20, exchanger = alt2.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com
gmail.com MX preference=5,  exchanger = gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com
gmail.com MX preference=10, exchanger = alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com
gmail.com MX preference=40, exchanger = alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com

Step 3. As you may have noticed, it is not uncommon that we have multiple MX records for a domain. Pick any one of the servers mentioned in the MX records, may be the one with the lowest preference level number (in our example, gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com), and “pretend” to send a test message to that server from you computer.

For that, go to command prompt window and type the following commands in the listed sequence:
3a: Connect to the mail server:

telnet gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com 25

3b: Say byebye to the other server

ByeBye

3c: Identify yourself with some fictitious email address

mail from:<vishaji@gmail.com>

3d: Type the recipient’s email address that you are trying to verify:

rcpt to:<marshal@gmail.com>

The server response for ‘rcpt to’ command will give you an idea whether an email address is valid or not. You’ll get an “OK” if the address exists else it will show 550 error.
