How to make disable Automatic Updates in Mozilla Firefox ?

I always used Mozilla Firefox , I recently updated my Firefoxversion 1.4.0 .One thing I don’t like about Firefox is that it’s set to automatically install updates without asking through any option first because I have faced lot of problems after updating of Firefox new version. It’s better to install the updates automatically, but if you want to do it manually instead of automatic updates you can follow by the below mentioned steps :-
Open Mozilla Firefox, click on the Firefox button and go to Options
Click on the Advanced tab.
Click the Update tab under Advanced settings.

In that below option showing the default Advanced Update settings. Under Firefox Update section, select the box that says Check for Updates, but Let Me Choose Whether to Install Them. This will notify you if any update is available for Firefox and it will be up to you whether you want to download and install the update or not. Also uncheck Use a Background Service to Install Updates. Click OK.

12 ways to save on software purchase.

In the computer era each and every people wants to buy software in an easy manner but it is very difficult for judging that from where you are buying the software that is not scam or not because scam is a way that anyone can easily cheat you. So,Always check whether you can save money on buying software online. Most software companies provide coupons at a rate of 15-50% and sometimes more. You just need to look for them. Sometimes you should choose few programs equal in functioning and buy the one with a coupon. Below you will find a few trusted services and ways to save money.
1. www.bitsdujour.com One of the largest software discounters. The site’s chip is that it provides software at substantial discounts, where each deal is available usually for one day only. At this resource you can found some very comprehensible discounts on a number of interesting software. It doesn't process the sales; it just arranges the discounts and provides the links. You buy the program right from its vendor. Everything it features is a legal, current version of the product.
2. www.retailmenot.com/coupons/software Great universal discounter with a separate software category. It has a very positive moment – you can add your own discount, which is then promptly checked by moderators. At the site there is a considerable number of products from well known developers.
3. www.softcns.com More than 50k positions. Good categorization of types and brands. There are both permanent and transitory positions. (Products, items)
4. www.pricecrumbler.com  The service is relatively young, but it is spinning up. More than 34k positions. Good division on categories. The most interesting items are brought to the home page that greatly simplifies the search for you.
5. www.thesoftwareclub.com Another service with a large number of positions divided on brands and categories. Top items are brought to the home page. It is also distinguished by the presence of exclusive discounts.
6. www.freesharewaredepot.com The software discounter with the possibility of software and coupon codes submission. They also have top positions and Editor's Picks.
7. www.giveawayoftheday.com This service stands apart from others since it is not a matter of discounts. At the daily basis they post licensed programs that will be available for download free of charge within 24 hours. Not a demo version, but a licensed registered version.
8. Try open source alternatives. But there are nuances - as a rule such software is less convenient (except for the most popular products), has a limited functional or does not have sufficient documentation. Often license agreement tells that such products should not be used for commercial use. You can spend significantly much more time to solve problems. But it’s worth a try. Just use the word “open source” in the search.
9. Find freeware. To be realistic - there are no really free things on the web. Especially it stands for software. The "free" software usually contains adware, toolbar installers and other crapware. It’s legally, because the installation adware has been indicated in the license but we all know how carefully the license agreements are read. Of course, there are a lot of pleasant exceptions. Anyway - be aware. Sometimes you can just avoid installation of toolbars by disabling the checkboxes during the installation process, but in some cases you need to spend a lot of time digging deeply rooted adware from your system. Often the freeware is the limited version of the commercial program, and it serves to promote the full commercial version.
10. www.couponcabin.com Another major universal software discounter with a separate category for the software. The site has a large database of coupons for a wide arrangement of online retailers. The majority of the coupons they list are verified and guaranteed to work, but they do list user-submitted coupons and promo code that may or may not work. Not very convenient because there is no division on categories.
11.Never buy so called "OEM software", if you see Windows or Adobe products (usually - old versions) with approximately 60-80% off price or less - be sure it's a scam. http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/faq/a/softwarescams.htm
12. When purchasing multiple licenses or expensive software with no coupon codes, always contact the vendor and ask for discount. In addition to discounts, you will be able to realize how easy and effective communication and support are.

Hardware acceleration for Windows 8 graphics-Microsoft.

New released Windows 8 operating system just around the corner, This new features that promise to make this OS as better than previous Windows 7.But according their officials they says that  Hardware acceleration is a point one considers while upgrading an OS or shifting to another OS. So they are giving out information on the new hardware acceleration features available to client applications in the Windows 8.
According to Microsoft team, with Windows 8 OS we set out to enable all applications to have the beautiful and high-performance graphics enabled by modern graphics hardware. In a post on the Building Windows 8 blog, Microsoft’s graphics group program manager Rob Copeland explains, “Graphics performance on Windows depends on both the operating system and the hardware system, comprised of the CPU, the GPU (graphics processing unit), and the associated display driver. To ensure that we could deliver a great experience for new Metro style apps, we needed to make sure that both the software platform and the hardware system would deliver great performance. In the past we’ve used many different benchmarks and apps to measure the performance of DirectX. These have been largely focused on 3D games. While games are still very important, we knew that many of these existing ways to measure graphics performance did not tell us everything we needed to know for graphics-intensive, 2D, mainstream apps. So, we created new scenario-focused tests and metrics to track our progress.”
Frame rate, glitch count, time to first frame, memory utilization and CPU utilization were the metrics used in the tests to determine the graphics performance of Windows 8. And the result, based on work carried out on adding DirectX hardware acceleration to Microsoft apps including Internet Explorer 9, Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Messenger, delivers best possible graphics performance for general 2D applications. Text-rendering performance is boosted up to 336 percent over Windows 7, whereas geometry rendering has also received a boost using a DirectX 11.1 feature called Target Independent Rasterization or TIR.
Earlier this week, we had reported about some new leaked screenshots of the Windows 8 Metro and how Microsoft is leaving no stone unturned in making its new OS a success with its users. Going by the screenshots, the new OS does look more revamped and refreshed. The screenshots suggest that the OS promises a host of changes including a boot screen with the new Metro-style logo, Internet Explorer 10 that interacts with the color of the Windows 8 theme, new color picker options for the desktop UI, additional Metro inspired wallpapers and backgrounds for lock screen.
Microsoft’s new operating system is special for a number of reasons. It is going to be available for both desktops and tablets. It will also be available for ARM devices through an operating system called Windows RT, which includes the all-new Metro user interface. PCs, notebooks and x86 tablets will have access to the standard Windows 8 operating system, which will include both the new Metro user interface as well as the traditional desktop user interface. The Metro user interface is designed specifically for tablets and touchscreens.
Windows 8 Release to Manufacturers (RTM) build will be available in the first week of August and Windows RT PCs will reach the general audience by October this year.

Facebook new Facial Recognition Technology.

Facebook approached how important it considers facial-recognition technology with the recent acquisition of Face.com, An Israeli firm specializing in software that powered Facebook's own tagging suggestions.
The privacy implications -- and the legal limitations -- surrounding facial recognition technology remain murky. Franken suggested that Congress should consider legislation that could clarify the appropriate uses of software like that behind Facebook's tag suggestions, both for commercial purposes and in the hands of law enforcement authorities.
Existing laws which are to be almost totally unprepared  to deal with facial recognition technology, as Franken said.
Representatives of the FBI and Federal Trade Commission were on hand at Wednesday's hearing to offer their perspective on facial-recognition applications. The FBI is developing what it calls a next-generation identification program, which will allow authorized law enforcement agencies to query a massive database of criminal photos. The program, currently in a pilot phase with about 12.8 million photos in the database, is on track to be fully operational by the summer of 2014.
Franken expressed concerns that the technology could pave the way for law-enforcement officials to expand surveillance programs, capturing images of protesters or participants at a political rally, for instance. But Jerome Pender, deputy assistant director of the Information Services Branch at the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division, promised lawmakers that the database would only draw on mug shots and not collect images from social-networking sites or other non-criminal repositories.
The FTC has also been evaluating facial-recognition applications in its ongoing review of the privacy practices of companies in the digital age, said Maneesha  Mithal, associate director at the commission's Division of Privacy and Identity Protection.

Recycling PCs and other Gadgets.

As if it were not enough that the planet is groaning under generations of refuse, we have electronic waste to add to the whole mess.  Here are some numbers for you to crunch on your calculator.

80% Americans just chuck their gadgets in the rubbish. Every DAY 130, 000 computers are thrown away and 75% of all computers sold is considered surplus. In America, that means hazardous waste to the tune of up to 40 million computers. And that is just computers. Add about 350,000 cell phones to the mix and you might begin to sense the magnitude of the problem. When it comes to recycling, only a mere 15% of electronic gadgets and equipment ever get there.

If we treat electronic waste like ordinary waste, one of two things could happen- it is burnt or it is sent to a landfill as garbage. When it is the former, it releases poisonous gases into the air and when it is the latter, it slowly releases toxic substances like mercury, lead and cadmium into the water, soil and atmosphere. In both cases, the consequences are scary to even contemplate. Recycling gadgets is such big business that regions build their businesses around it. For instance, Guiyu is known as China’s Electronic Waste Village, and around 5,500 businesses dismantle devices close to the tune of 1.5 million pounds each year, generating $75 million a year in revenue.  But the thriving industry is not contained to this part of the world alone. It is huge business in Africa and India where, unlike the West, recycling is run as a small business and guidelines are often ignored.  In fact, lead poisoning is a threat in places like these.  Other health hazards include cancer and miscarriages.

Recycling is crucial because it produces raw material for more gadgets. Also, you can find copper, lead, gold, silver and other metals that can be further reused. The good news is that awareness is increasing and so are opportunities. For instance, Dell and Staples have come together for a recycling initiative- if you do not want to ship your old stuff to the computer firm, just drop it off at one of the stationery giant’s stores. You could sell your old, still-working phone to Greenphone.com that will then help poor customers procure phones. In the U.S, your phone could be part of a care package for troops abroad with Operation Gratitude or to fund programs that fight domestic violence.

Electronics giant Sony has take-back programs, and Kodak has a buy-back program for its printers and cameras. Gazelle.com will give you money for your mobile phones and Macs, among other gadgets. Apple has a recycling program where you get an Apple Gift Card for money on your Apple devices, depending on their condition.

Recycling also brings out the creative side of things- you can choose among recycled circuit boards desk lamp, jewelry made with your keyboard keys, and a chair that takes PlayStation2 consoles for a smooth ride. Other wonders include ties, laptop sleeves and clocks.

So, next time on, recycle that gadget and let the planet breathe a little easy.

Insurance companies under lens for tax burden of over Rs 300 crore.

Insurance companies have come under the scanner of a government intelligence agency for allegedly evading service tax of over Rs 300cr.
The Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI) has initiated a probe following complaints of the service tax evasion by various insurance providers. "There have been some instances of tax evasion by insurance firms. An enquiry is being conducted by the officials," a senior DGCEI official, who did not wish to be identified, said.

The investigations are underway and the amount is likely to be higher," the official said without divulging names of insurance companies under the lens.
All general policies including insurance against risk of loss to assets like motor vehicle etc is 12.36 per cent on the annual premium paid. Whereas, the rate of service tax varies on the part of premium taken towards risk coverage for life insurance, according to a Mumbai-based service tax expert.
According to another DGCEI official, most of the irregularities have been detected in payment to insurance brokers or agents by the companies. "During our enquiry, we found that some companies were deducting service tax from agents who were selling their products. But failed to show it on their accounts book for government scrutiny," the official said.
Besides, there have been instances where the companies were giving incorrect data of the total policies sold or renewed by them to evade tax, he said. Nexus 7 has been started to shipped for those who preordered.

Nexus 7 has been started to shipped for those who preordered also available in GameStop for anyone.
The $199 Nexus 7 tablet excited quite a few folks when unveiled at Google I/O recently. Lot of users used out their credit cards and preordered a Nexus 7 from Google, expecting to get it as soon as it was available. Few of uses are getting notifications from Google that their precious has shipped to arrive soon. Others are just going to the GameStop retail stores and buying one today. No preorder necessary.
Word of shipping units was confirmed by CNET , as early buyers were getting email notification from Google that the Nexus 7 was on the way. I am still waiting notification that mine has left the station on its way to me.Upon getting word that the Nexus 7 was beginning to ship, some without orders headed to retail outlets carrying the tablet to see if they were available today. I've gotten word from two of them on Twitter that indeed the local GameStop store had them for sale, no preorder necessary.
But its needless  to say some anxious purchasers of the Nexus 7 are a bit upset to not have their tablet ordered weeks ago, especially when can anyone just go to the store and pick one up. Google needs to take a page from the Apple manual and make sure that all who preorder a device get them at the same time.
But from my level , my preorder has been a bit puzzling. When I placed make payment for the order a few weeks ago the charge hit my bank account as pending. Earlier this week the purchase with Google changed to charged and the purchase amount was deducted from the account. That was good news to me as it indicated the Nexus 7 that I am anxious to receive, would soon be on its way.
Today, the day others are getting those shipping notices and others are buying the Nexus 7 locally, the entire purchase price was removed from my bank account. I now haven't paid for my tablet according to the bank and to Google. It's like getting thrown off the bus to wait for the next one, I guess.

Amazon launches GameCircle Network for Kindle Smartphone.

Amazon is taking on Apple’s Game Center with the launch of its own gaming network for Kindle Fire gamers: GameCircle.

GameCircle brings achievements, leaderboards and — most interestingly — makes sync APIs accessible for Kindle Fire games. Sync will save your place to the cloud, allowing you to pick up playing on one device right where you left off on another.
Amazon describes lot of features like as “Players will not have to worry about losing progress, scores or achievements between Kindle Fire devices, as all data is securely stored in the cloud. “Probably the only reason for having such a service — unless you happen to have bought multiple Kindle Fire tablets — is if those hints of an Amazon smartphone are for real.
Sure, you could also use the feature to transfer game progress on your current Kindle Fire to the next generation if and when that becomes available, or to a new Kindle Fire if your current device is lost, stolen, or broken. The functionality; however, would lose its luster long-term if you didn’t have a few Fire devices to use it with.
As far as the other GameCircle features go, the Achievements section keeps track of all of the trophies, awards, treasures, and badges that you’ve earned in a game without having to leave the game much like Apple’s Game Center.
Players can get messages in-game, letting them know when they’re reached a new milestone, and can pause gameplay to check out a summary of all of the achievements they’ve unlocked so far as well as what achievements are left to be unlocked.
Leaderboards let players see how they stack up against others playing the game.
If you’re a developer, you can sign up for access to GameCircle APIs here. Gamers can check out a list of Kindle Fire games that are already using GameCircle services here.

Windows 8 will released in October 2012.

Till day before we are in imagination now it was not really clear when Microsoft’s upcoming operating system Windows 8 would available for all. We have seen lots of estimates in the past based on the views that Microsoft revealed about the release process. Especially the announcement that it would be available three years after Windows 7 was helpful in this regard, as it allowed us to off the curtain to the last quarter of 2012.
According to Microsoft’s Tami Reller, the company will release the Windows 8 RTM in the first week of August, and the retail version at the end of October. This has just been announced at the Worldwide Partner conference in Toronto which is currently available as a Life stream on the Digital Worldwide Partner Community website (please note that Microsoft Silverlight is required to watch the live footage).
A release in October 2012 basically means that Windows 8 will exactly be released three years after the release of Windows 7, which as we all knew has been made available in October 2009 for the very first time.
Existing Windows users from that moment on have until January 31, 2013 to take advantage of the upgrade promotion to upgrade their current version of the operating system to Windows 8 Pro. This offer is valid for all versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Differences exist in the data that users can migrate when they upgrade to Windows8.
All users can migrate their personal files, while Vista and Windows 7 users can migrate operating system settings, and Windows 7 users installed applications.
A release in October, or the availability of devices running Windows 8 in October, ensures that the operating system will be available for the important holiday season. It also gives us a great opportunity to compare the popularity of the operating system with its predecessor Windows 7.
