Go indoors with Google Maps 6.0 for Android

Google Maps for mobile had its sixth birthday earlier this month and we’re celebrating by releasing the next generation of Google Maps for Android, which is first to get indoor Google Maps—announced moments ago on the Official Google Blog. We also have two other great additions in this release: a new way to switch between features in the toolbar and a new Places home screen.

Mapping the vast indoors

When you’re inside an airport, shopping mall, retail store, or other public space, Google Maps 6.0 for Android brings the freestanding map directory to the palm of your hands -- helping you determine where you are, what floor you're on, and where to go indoors. For example, in this busy travel season, you can use Google Maps 6.0 to help you find your way around airports.
When you’re inside an airport, shopping mall or retail store, a common way to figure out where you are is to look for a freestanding map directory or ask an employee for help. Starting today, with the release of Google Maps 6.0 for Android, that directory is brought to the palm of your hands, helping you determine where you are, what floor you're on, and where to go indoors.
Detailed floor plans automatically appear when you’re viewing the map and zoomed-in on a building where indoor map data is available. The familiar “blue dot” icon indicates your location within several meters, and when you move up or down a level in a building with multiple floors, the map will automatically update to display which floor you’re on.

Portable Antivirus Software from Microsoft

Is your computer infected with a virus that is preventing you from downloading security updates from the Internet or from running any antivirus program on that machine? Or are your looking for an antivirus software that can be carried on a USB drive to quickly scan any disconnected computer(s) for viruses or malware?

You should check out Microsoft Safety Scanner. This is a free antivirus software, always updated with the latest definitions, and requires no installation - all you need to do is copy the program executable msert.exe to an infected computer and double-click that file. If it detects a problem, the infected files will be quarantined.

You may either do a thorough scan - check every file and folder - or a quick scan that checks a limited number of folders that are most likely to contain viruses, malware or spyware.

Microsoft Safety Scanner
is available as a free download for both 32-bit and 64-bit version of Windows. You may use on Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 machines and, unlike Microsoft’s other antivirus software, Safety Scanner doesn’t perform a check for genuine Windows.

The program expires after 10 days but you can always re-download it with the updated virus definitions. It won’t however scan your Outlook emails or your network drives for any possible infections.

How can we check multiple Gmail accounts automatically??

If you have multiple email accounts on Gmail - say one for your personal emails and other for your business - you don’t have to log out of one email account to check the other mailbox.

Google, as most would probably know, allows multiple sign-in so you can easily log in to two or more Gmail accounts simultaneously inside the same browser. And this works with Google Apps accounts as well.

There’re however some limitations here. One, if you sign-out of one Google Account, you will automatically get logged out from all your other Gmail / Google Accounts as well. Second, if you are launching a new browser session, you’ll have to log in to all your Gmail accounts separately because you can switch from one account to another.
Alternate Approach - Sign-in once for all your Gmail Accounts

Let’s say you have three Gmail accounts – one is your primary account that you need to check throughout the day while the other two email accounts aren’t that important.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just log into your main Gmail account and automatically get signed into all your other Gmail accounts as well but without having to type the login credentials of any of those accounts? The trick is really simple.

Gmail offers a useful feature called Email Delegation where you can share your inbox with other people (say your spouse) but without revealing your password. Once you delegate your Gmail account to someone, they get instant read-write access to your mailbox and they get signed in to your Gmail account as soon as they sign in to their own Google account.

If you apply the Email Delegation facility to your own Gmail accounts, you can check all your mailboxes by simply logging into your primary Gmail account. Here’s how:

Sign-in to one of your secondary Gmail accounts and go to Mail Settings –> Accounts –> Grant Access to your account (screenshot). Choose “Add another Account” and specify your primary Gmail email address here. You’ll now get a confirmation email (screenshot) in your primary mailbox. Accept the request and repeat these steps for all your other Gmail accounts.

That’s it. Once you sign-in to your main Gmail account, you also check all your secondary email accounts by choosing the “Switch Account” option in the upper left corner of your Gmail window. There’s absolutely no need to manually sign in to any of the other email.

Should you use email delegation instead of multiple sign-in? It depends.

This delegation option is only limited to Gmail so while you can check your email account from another Google account, you would still need to sign-in to access your Google Docs, Calendar, Google Plus and other Google products.

Second, while multiple sign-ins allow you to check a Gmail account from a Google Apps account, delegation would only let you share your mailbox with accounts withing the same organization (i.e. email with the same domain name).

Get Free .in Domain and Hosting from Google

Google India, in partnership with ICICI Bank and HostGator (the web hosting company), has launched a new program called India Get Online where they make it easy for you to setup a website for your business for free.

As part of the deal, you get a free .in web domain (provided it is available) and free web hosting for one year. The .in domain will registered to you while Hostgator will manage the website hosting* though you can move the site to any other web host for free.

Such free offers are always a goldmine for spammers but Google India has made it mandatory for businesses to enter their Permanent Account Number (PAN) or Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN) at the time of registration. Since these numbers are unique for every individual / business, you can’t avail it more than once.

Your website will be integrated with Google Apps so you also get access to other Google products like Gmail, Google Analytics, Google Docs and more. You also get Google Adwords coupons worth INR 2.5k for free to help you advertise your website on Google and AdSense network sites.

[*] If you have purchased a web domain already, you can also use Google App Engine to host your website online for free.

You can visit vijashiviinternational.in or khoslaprinters.in to get an idea of how sites created with the “India Get Online” look like. There’s a set of ready made web templates, pick one that matches your business profile, you can customize the text and pictures of the pages and your site is good to go.

Google hasn’t exactly specified the amount that businesses will have to pay to renew their website registration and hosting after one year except saying that it will be a “discounted fee.”

Microsoft had a offered a similar service in India called Office Live for Small Businesses but they recently discontinued it in favor of Office 365 which is less about website hosting but more about running your business in the cloud.

How To Remove Mozzila Hanging Problem

"From Last some days I am facing the hanging and show working problem while using Mozilla Firefox and finally I got the final solution to resolve this problem and I want to share this to my all friends"

To improve performance when navigating (studies show that 39% of all page navigation's are reinvestigation to pages visited less than 10 pages ago, usually using the back button), Firefox implements a Back-Forward cache that retains the rendered document for the last five session history entries for each tab. This is a lot of data. If you have a lot of tabs, Firefox’s RAM memory usage can climb dramatically. It’s a trade-off. What you get out of it is faster performance as you navigate the web.

Reduce the amount of RAM Firefox uses for it’s cache feature:
Lets know how to do it:

Type “about:config” (no quotes) in the address bar in the browser.
Find “browser.session history.max_total_viewer”
Set it’s value to “0“(Zero)

Increase the Speed in Which Firefox loads pages:
1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit Enter.
(Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.)
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 10.
This means it will make 10 requests at once.
3. Lastly, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0“;.(Zero)
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages faster now.
Optionally (for even faster web browsing) here are some more options for your about:config (you might have to create some of these entries by Right Click –> New– > Interger or String
network.dns.disableIPv6: set “false”
“content.notify.backoffcount”: set “5“; (Five)
“plugin.expose_full_path”: set “true”.
“ui.submenuDelay”: set “0"; (zero)

Reduce RAM usage to 10mb when Firefox is minimized:
(This little hack will drop Firefox’s RAM usage down to 10 Mb when minimized)
1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter “config.trim_on_minimize”. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.

Facebook application password and trusted friends feature.

Facebook announced that in one day over 600,000 accounts are compromised of hacking/forgetting passwords. Facebook security has been an issue since long time with increasing concerns over the security issues. Recently Facebook released two new features called Trusted Friends and App Passwords as a part of their security, this options allow users to take control of their hijacked accounts.

Facebook says our engineers are working hard to solve these security issues to give better and smoother site experience:
Facebook Trusted Friends:-
Trusted Friends are friends you can reach out to if you ever get locked out of your Facebook account. For example lets say you forgot your password. What you will do next? obviously you try to recover password by using 'forgot your password' option, But what if you forgot the password of the email that you have provided for the back door access too.

Now here your Trusted Friends play their role. If you forgot your password, Facebook will send a security code to each of your trusted friends. Just you have to collect your security codes from each friend. You only need three codes to get back your account. But i recommend you to select 4-5 friends. But remember, your trusted friends should be always available and quickly respond you.
How To Setup Facebook Trusted Friends
1. Go to your Facebook Account Settings --> Security -->Security Settings.
2. Click on the Trusted Friends section.
3.Click Choose Trusted Friends
4. Scroll through your friends or search for specific friends.
5. Select 4-5 friends and confirm your choices. See screenshot below.

Facebook App Passwords:-
App Passwords generates a unique passwords to all your third party apps. In Facebook we use bunch of other third party apps which allow us to enter our Facebook credentials. So, this great feature allow us to generate random passwords for the selected apps. Even you can block a specific app by deleting the generated password. This would keep our original Facebook login credentials safe from other third party apps. To generate app passwords users can visit the Account Settings -->Security Settings tab and enter the name of an app generate a unique password for it.
